Paediatric First Aid

IMG_1245This is a 2 day course with a minimum contact time of 12 hours and will deal specifically with babies and children, it will include classroom training, practical work with observational assessment and a multiple-choice examination at the end of the course (RQF level 3 / SCQF level 6).

The qualification is valid for 3 years and all learners will be assessed for their practical skills as well as their knowledge in the form of a multiple choice question paper.

Curriculum:

  • Understand the role and responsibilities of a Paediatric first aider
  • Assess an incident
  • Manage an unresponsive casualty who is breathing normally
  • Manage an unresponsive casualty who is not breathing normally
  • Recognise and assist a casualty who is choking
  • Manage a casualty with external bleeding
  • Manage a casualty who is in shock
  • Manage a casualty with a minor injury
  • manage a casualty having a seizure
  • Defibrillation-child
  • Fractures, dislocations, sprains and strain
  • Dealing with Eye, Ear and Nose injuries
  • Chronic Conditions including Sickle cell crisis, Diabetic emergency, Asthma attack, Allergic reaction and Febrile convulsions
  • Extremes Heat and Cold
  • Burns & Scalds
  • Bites & Stings
  • Minor Injuries Small cuts, graces, bumps and bruises
  • Sudden poisoning
  • Accident Report
