This is a 2 day course with a minimum contact time of 12 hours and will deal specifically with babies and children, it will include classroom training, practical work with observational assessment and a multiple-choice examination at the end of the course (RQF level 3 / SCQF level 6).
The qualification is valid for 3 years and all learners will be assessed for their practical skills as well as their knowledge in the form of a multiple choice question paper.
Curriculum:
- Understand the role and responsibilities of a Paediatric first aider
- Assess an incident
- Manage an unresponsive casualty who is breathing normally
- Manage an unresponsive casualty who is not breathing normally
- Recognise and assist a casualty who is choking
- Manage a casualty with external bleeding
- Manage a casualty who is in shock
- Manage a casualty with a minor injury
- manage a casualty having a seizure
- Defibrillation-child
- Fractures, dislocations, sprains and strain
- Dealing with Eye, Ear and Nose injuries
- Chronic Conditions including Sickle cell crisis, Diabetic emergency, Asthma attack, Allergic reaction and Febrile convulsions
- Extremes Heat and Cold
- Burns & Scalds
- Bites & Stings
- Minor Injuries Small cuts, graces, bumps and bruises
- Sudden poisoning
- Accident Report
